The Slow Fix and other books by Ivan E. Coyote

The Slow Fix by Ivan E. Coyote is a collection of funny, touching, real stories about growing up and living gender-queer in modern Northern Canada. Her writing is disarming, touching, memorable and universally appealing, and draw heavily on her own experiences  as a masculine, small town lesbian. She's been compared to kd lang - only with books, instead of music - and I definitely get the same 'feel' from her.

  • Short listed for the Lambda Literary Award (lesbian fiction)
This is a highly recommended author who has also written several other similar and recommended short story collections:

Loose End : a diversity of tales about urban life.
  • short listed for the Ferro Grumley Award
  • finalist for the 2008 Vancouver Public Library’s One Book, One Vancouver
Missed Her: A more wistful, perceptive collection about gender and identity.

Bow Grip (a novel)
  • short listed for the Ferro Grumley Award
